When you leave a gift in your Will to CureDM Charity, you help ensure that we can continue to be here to provide support, raise awareness, and facilitate research into Myotonic Dystrophy. Thank you for considering our small Charity.
How to Leave your Legacy.
If you would like to leave a gift in your Will to CureDM, we strongly recommend you that you speak to a solicitor to ensure that your wishes will be carried out as you intend.
The four ways to leave a charitable gift
1. A specific sum (a pecuniary legacy)
The simplest. “I leave £5,000 to Cure Myotonic Dystrophy UK Charity (Registered Charity Number 1191217).” The exact amount, to a specific charity.
2. A specific item (a specific legacy)
A particular asset – a piece of property, a painting, a share portfolio. “I leave my original Monet painting to Cure Myotonic Dystrophy UK Charity (Registered Charity Number 1191217).”
3. A percentage share
“I leave 10% of my residuary estate to Cure Myotonic Dystrophy UK Charity (Registered Charity Number 1191217).” Tied to the size of the estate, so the amount adjusts with inflation and your circumstances.
4. The residue (or a share of it)
What’s left after specific gifts, debts, expenses, and any inheritance tax. “I leave the residue of my estate to Cure Myotonic Dystrophy UK Charity (Registered Charity Number 1191217).” Can be a single charity or split between multiple.
You will need to take the following details with you:
CURE MYOTONIC DYSTROPHY UK CHARITY (CDM)
Registered Address: Riverside View
Station Road
Whitton
SCUNTHORPE
DN15 9LR
Registered charity number: 1191217 (England and Wales)
An example of wording you could use:
I leave my / X share (s) of my residuary estate for Cure Myotonic Dystrophy UK Charity (CDM), Riverside View, Station Road, Whitton, Scunthorpe, DN15 9LR, registered charity number 1191217 (England and Wales), absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
Changing your Will
If you have already made your Will and decide that you would like to add a gift to Cure DM, a codicil is a good, inexpensive way to do so. Adding a codicil to your Will enables you to leave a donation to Cure DM whilst ensuring that the other provisions remain untouched and you won’t have to pay for your Will to be completely rewritten.
There is no requirement to inform us if you intend to leave a Legacy to the Charity, but if you would liek to get in touch to discuss your wishes, please email us on curedm@outlook.com.
